Recently, one of our staff members had a somewhat unsettling dream while in bed at night.
In this dream, it was your typical average day. The sun was shining, birds were singing, the breeze was blowing… – You couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day!
Considering that this dream’s setting took place during the summer months, it was obviously very hot and humid. For this reason, the whole family had gone indoors to grab some fresh squeezed lemonade with lots of ice to cool off from what at the time, felt like an outdoor furnace, putting it mildly.
Once inside, the family huttled around the table drinking their glasses and over all, having a fantastic afternoon. One thing which stood out was the fact that the television was on playing a popular show, although admittedly, no one really was paying much attention to it at first.
That was until out of nowhere came the familiar sounds of the Emergency Broadcast System alert tone.
“Meh… it’s probably just a test,” the son had said. “We get these things all the freakin’ time. I’d listen up, just in case, but it’s probably nothing to write home about.” “I agree,” said the mother.
Everyone quickly reverted their attention back to the drinks, and good fellowship not realizing for one moment what was about to occur. Suddenly, the emergency alert system tone went totally berserk. This was not your average continuous two pitches at the same time playing tone. That was an aspect of it, yes, but their were more tones combined which cannot be described via writing more than to say they were petrifying to hear with the human ears.
“Oh my God,” said the son! “What in the world is that?” “Hush,” said the mother! “We need to hear this, undoubtedly. It sounds super super urgent.”
“We interrupt this program to bring you probably the most urgent alert you’ll ever hear.” The son cringed at those words, for he always feared something like a tornado, or the like.
“Start praying,” said the mother.” “As some of you may have noticed, though it is the summer, today has been exceptionally more hot than the usual. As you recall, a heat advisory warning has been in effect for the last 48 hours.” “Oh no! What does this mean,” said the mother?
“Reports have shown signs that there has been a cloud visible from as far as 200 miles away from the main city which is showing up on Doppler radar. This cloud seems to be however taking on the formation of a human being, which is certainly a strange phenomena. This figure… um… whatever it may be… seems to be flashing back and forth across the sky at what appears to be like a lightning bolt.”
“No,” said the son! “This isn’t real! This can’t be happening! I always thought we would all be dead before…” “Hush,” interrupted the mother, almost at the top of her lungs! At this time, the mother immediately hit the floor on her knees praying, and worshipping God on high.
“Henry,” (Not the real staff member’s name, out of respect for their privacy!), said the mother. “Look! There he is!” The son very sheepishly turned around to be staring face to face at what appeared to be a middle eastern man about 7 and a half feet tall staring down at the son with the warmest, most loving smile anyone could even partially comprehend.
“Jesus,” said the son? “Yes, Henry. It’s me,” said the man. “Oh! Jesus! Oh! Father! It’s you! It’s really you! Oh! Jesus! Lord! My king! My savior! My deliverer!” The son proceeded to throw his arms around Jesus, who immediately returned the embrace with more warmth than anyone could imagine. Jesus then proceeded to do the same with the mother and everyone else around.
“Lord,” asked the son? “I need to talk to you about something. Can we speak in private please?” “Absolutely,” said Jesus, although I think I know what you’re going to say. Come with me.”
With not one bit of hesitation, Henry followed Jesus outdoors. “Wait! Jesus! Why are we going in here to the woodshed? You don’t spank people, I hope!” Henry was saying this partially kidding, but also partially being dead, no pun intended, serious.
“Sweet heart! No,” said Jesus, almost with tears in his own eyes out of concern from that comment! “I’m not going to hit you! Far far from that! Sweety, I just want to talk to you! OK? That’s all! You’re OK! Calm down! It’s O, K! Relax!” With this, Henry did indeed relax quite intensely.
“So… Henry, what did you want to talk to me about?” “Jesus, it’s sooo! dark in here!” “I know. That’s short coming; I promise. What’s going on?”
“Well…,” said Henry. “I’ve not been exactly the best Christian in the world.” “Hmm Hmm?”, said Jesus. “I just… I… I feel like… well… like I don’t… well…”
“You feel like you don’t deserve my love, nor to be with me right now, nor to be going to my Father’s house.” “Well, yeah! that,” said Henry!”
“Awe, sweety! There is nothing! you could do, ever! to earn that gain. You never can do anything good enough to get you into Heaven. Remember in church when you learned about how I died on the cross? Well, look! Here I am! I’m here! I’m not dead, am I? No! I’m far from it! And, honey, so are you! Me coming back isn’t a way to hurt you, or send you to hell; I hope that you know that!”
“I just don’t want to see your face, Jesus. I don’t deserve to,” said Henry.” “Come here, Henry,” said Jesus, as he reached out his arm, and in one swift motion gathered Henry into his loving arms. “You have to know, Henry, that no matter what you’ve done up to this point in life, even the things which you couldn’t shrug off, like your thoughts, your temptations, etc. You have to know that these things do not get you into either Heaven or Hell.
Henry, I have loved you before you even were conceived within Mom’s womb. Remember that song that you always would sing that you said was your favorite hymn? What does it say, Henry? His eye’s… where? On the sparrow, and I know He watches me… right? Henry, I love you more than you ever could know! but, admittedly, it saddens me that this is the first thing you thought of saying to me upon seeing my face for the first time.”
“I’m sorry, Lord. Please don’t be mad at me.” “I’m not mad at you, Henry. I just wish that your heart had been more on praising and worshiping me.” At this point, the staff member woke up.
So… what was the point of us outlining this dream to you all, the readers? Simply this.
What will you do, if faced with the glorious appearing staring right back at you in your lifetime.
We don’t want you to get the wrong idea here. We’re not saying that you need not ever repent of your sins. That is the last thing we’d ever promote! We are absolutely not now, nor ever saying that, so don’t even go there!
What we are! saying, however is, Jesus has already paid the debt for our sins. Whether that be something in your eyes as little as burping at the table over breakfast, to lusting after another person, to even those who may have murdered. The point is, you are precious in God’s eyes! Don’t you ever forget that! Ever! No sin is good sin, but when confessed, all sins are washed away.
Once Jesus returns, will it really matter at that point what we’ve done? In other words, which will you be more focused on at that point. Trying to repair your past? Jesus has already done that! Why’re you trying to reinvent the wheel? Give it to Jesus! Give it all to Him, and trust that he is the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world, but that the world may have peace in Him. (John 3:17.) Just as John 3:16 is important, I think we need to also remember the following verse, in verse 17 as written above.
Christ has already paid the price. Our job should be to worship and to trust in Him. Again, this doesn’t mean not to repent of our sins. We can’t stress that enough. It does however mean that we shouldn’t be focused on the worldly things such as our sins at the final hour.
I know one thing! At that point, all I want to do is bow before Him in worship. The last thing we need to be concerned with at that moment is how to make things right. We’ll be given that chance. Remember, just because Christ has returned and we see him eye to eye doesn’t necessarily mean we’re dead. Obviously, once dead, we will not have any choice at that point, but just from the return, we’ll have a chance, just as Henry did in the above dream, which by the way was not a fictitious story. This dream really did occur by one of our staff members.
We’d like to leave you with these following lyrics to an old song from the 50’s. It was written by a gentlemen named Porter Wagner, and is called “What Would You Do.”
Really think about these words, as you ponder the day. What’s more important? Your worldly pride? Or worshiping Jesus, our Lord? Lyrics follow:
If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two
If he came unexpectedly I wonder what you’d do
When you saw him coming’ would you meet him at the door
With arms outstretched and welcomed as your heavenly visitor.
Or would you need to change some things before you let him in
Like burn some magazines and put the Bible where they’d been
Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room to such an honored guest.
And all the food that you’d serve to him would be the very best
And you’d keep assuring him that you was glad to have him there
That serving him in your home was a joy beyond compare
But what about your family conversation would it keep up its normal pace
And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace.
Would you be glad to have him stay forever on and on
Or would you sigh of great relief when finally he had gone
You know it might be interesting to know the things you’d do
If Jesus came in person to spend some time with you.
