Many Christians shy away from things like astrology, psychic abilities and others. There are theories as to why this is. Some attribute it to the fall of Rome. Others say that the Scriptures have been changed. This is not the authors intent.
Many people have tried to predict the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus Christ. They have all been found lacking as of now. This is undoubtedly one of the main reasons why Christians eschew astrology. After all, Jesus forestalled any attempts at predicting his coming himself. Whenever you hear man say, here he is, I am not there. There are all those verses about coming like a twinkling of the eye. There are other verses about his coming being like a flash of lightning across the sky. There is the parable of the talents.
So what then about September 23, 2017? In the 12 chapter of the book of Revelation, it talks about a woman in heaven, with the moon at her feet and the sun at her head. 12 stars are mentioned, and it is said that she is pregnant. For Kristian sky watcher David Mede, this refers to a constellational alignment which only occurs once every 7000 years or so. Things like that usually signal large events. This is where those people who are still into this try to predict the end of the world. They only beget further ridicule. However, God doesn’t do things frivolously.
For Mede, this is not the end of the world, but the start of a cycle of seven years of tribulation. Only speculation is available to us from here.
God tells us to look to the sky for his signs. He does not tell us to try to foretell timings which he has not unveiled, but he does tell us to look. Our Lord placed the celestial bodies in orbits, which in the end are themselves predictable. We know when Sirius, Orion and Cignus aren’t ascending. This has nothing to do with the occult. This is true telescopically available science. However, what hidden gems could be located within the predictability of our unpredictable Lord?
